1 Peter 4:11-
Whoever speaks, is to do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen
1 Cornithians 10:31-
So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of
God.
“Why don’t you have a real job” is a question I’ve been asked before. Afterall, I am a seventeen year old who has her license. So why don’t I have, what the world would consider, a real job? Well, I shall tell you. I believe the Lord has me at home for a reason. If you have read my About page you may have an idea of what I’m about to say. Something along the lines of marriage and children is probably what you’re expecting. You would be right. If I pursued work outside of my home (being away from my home and family) right now, could I learn all there is to learn about running a home full of children and lead by a hard-working husband? No, probably not. Neither would it benefit my father if I was off at work when he needed help here with his own two home businesses.
My mom reminded me of something the other day. The Essig family is not your everyday family. We get up early to start our day. In the summer that usually means filling up coolers, loading mowers onto the trailer, packing lunches, and getting dad/mom/me out the door to go mow. When that’s done, there are animal chores and farm chores to be done. And in addition to outside chores there are house chores, which are the ones the gals of the family handle. So whether it’s mowing rental property, watering/hauling/planting blueberry plants, filling up coolers, packing lunches, or simply making the house presentable and orderly by washing dishes, or doing laundry, I do have a real job. I have the kind of job that will have an impact on my future; Lord willing a husband and children. I’m learning how to be what the Lord has called me. I’m learning how to be a keeper of the home, a submissive wife, a help mate, and loving mother who desires to raise her children (whatever the number) in discipline and stature, teaching them to be sojourners of Christ and to participate in every good work.
I might not get a pay check every week or have the freedom to take time off, but I would say that I have a real job; wouldn’t you?
